Waiting for Red Pigtails

Julia Peirone

thumb
Waiting for red pigtails subtly intertwines text and image. The book is based on Julia Peirone’s still image movie of the same name.

The text (represented in the film by one voice) is essential for the structure and content of the work. Different girls appear and the text describes their looks, what they wear or do. After a while the shape and content of the text begins to change. Words are reversed and made into new descriptions of the same girls. With a slightly surreal tone, the text takes the viewer behind the surface.

Sailor Press

Sailor Press

Sailor Press aims to offer an alternative to publishing restricted by the constraints of institutions or larger publishers. In close dialogue and collaboration with the artists we develop publications that explore the artist's work as well as the book as a medium. The content of the book and the book as object are equally important. Sailor Press is founded and run by book designer Matilda Plöjel, and wishes to explore the field between art and graphic design. Sailor Press also distributes critical writings on design, craft and art.
